Article Determinants of Credit Card Use: Evidence from Cross-Sectional Data in Turkey(Int Journal Contemporary Economics & Administrative Sciences, 2022) Karaaslan, Kubranur Cebi; Tekmanli, Hasan HuseyinIt is important to make payments contactless in order to comply with hygiene rules, especially when shopping under the new normal principles. It is expected that this will increase credit card use. Based on this, the aim of the study is to determine the demographic, economic and environmental factors affecting the use of credit cards. In this study, the data obtained from the Turkish Statistical Institute were used. Binary logistic regression and binary probit regression analyzes were used under discrete choice analysis to identify the factors affecting the household credit card use status. The analysis results showed that the factors such status, income, expenditure, financial assets, saving, online shopping, and questionnaire year were effective on the credit card use attitudes of households. Determining the effects and effect sizes of these has contributed to explain the attitude of credit card use and has guided decision-makers and policymakers to transform the use of credit cards for contributing to the economy.Article Determinants of Healthcare Expenditures: Evidence from Türkiye's Healthcare System(Frontiers Media SA, 2025) Diger, Hulya; Karaaslan, Kubranur Cebi; Kostekci, Ahmet; Gov, AbdullahBackground The lack of a mandatory referral system for service demand in T & uuml;rkiye's health system and the belief that unnecessary health expenditures are increasing constitute the basis of this study. This study aims to analyze the determinant role of individuals in health expenditures in T & uuml;rkiye in two dimensions: household indicators and indicators for the head of the household, taking into account health expenditure policies. Methods In this study, the factors affecting households' out-of-pocket health expenditures are tested with the help of binary probit regression analysis using the micro data set of the Turkish Statistical Institute 2022 Household Budget Survey. Results The findings revealed no significant relationship between out-of-pocket health expenditures and variables such as gender, education level, employment status, private insurance ownership, alcohol and tobacco use, ease of access to a health center, receipt of monetary aid, or household size. Conclusion According to the results of the research, older individuals spend more on health expenditures. Expenditures increase in parallel with education expenditures and health expenditures decrease as income level increases.Article Disentangling the Determinants of Household Energy Expenditure: A Quantile Regression Approach with Machine Learning(Elsevier Science SA, 2025) Karaaslan, Abdulkerim; Karaaslan, Kubranur Cebi; Kardes, SerkanHousehold energy consumption is a key driver of national energy demand and emissions. Understanding household behaviour is therefore essential for designing effective and socially sensitive energy policies. This study investigates the determinants of household energy expenditure in T & uuml;rkiye using microdata from the 2023 Household Budget Survey. Variable selection was conducted with machine learning algorithms, and quantile regression was applied to capture heterogeneity across different expenditure levels. The results show that socioeconomic and housing characteristics shape energy spending in diverse ways. In lower quantiles, household type, vehicle fuel choice, and heating systems are more influential, while in upper quantiles, income, residence type, and the number of automobiles dominate. Across all quantiles, appliance efficiency and fuel preferences remain important levers. These findings highlight that uniform policies are unlikely to succeed and that tailored, contextsensitive strategies are needed. By linking household behaviour with institutional realities, the study provides evidence to guide more inclusive and effective energy policy design.Article Factors Affecting Seeking Psychological and Psychiatric Support for Turkish Society(Public Library Science, 2024) Karaaslan, Kubranur Cebi; Karaaslan, Abdulkerim; Subasi, HuriyeThe increase in mental health issues and awareness among individuals, compared to previous times, has contributed to recognizing this as a significant public health issue. The necessity to explore potential factors behind mental health problems has become paramount and served as the primary impetus for the current research endeavor. This study aims to explore if there is a relationship between attitudes toward seeking psychological and psychiatric support. a significant relationship between sociodemographic factors and individuals' tendency to seek psychological and psychiatric help, and if so, in what direction are these relationships? and a significant relationship between individual and social factors and individuals' tendency to seek psychological and psychiatric help, and if so, in what direction are these relationships? Microdata from the Turkey Health Survey, conducted by the Turkish Statistical Institute and representative of Turkey, was used as the dataset. Increased the representative power of the data set over the universe by weighting the data set, and the Bivariate Probit Model was used to address the research questions. As a result of the study, various sociodemographic (gender, age, employment status, et al.), individual and social factors (general health status, participation in social activities, alcohol use et al.) may influence individuals' inclinations toward seeking psychological and psychiatric assistance. The research offers valuable insights for social policymakers and researchers into the behavioral tendencies of individuals seeking professional psychiatric help.Article Hope in the Pandemic: Multidimensional Factors Behind Individuals' Sense of Hope with the Example of Turkey(Sage Publications Inc, 2025) Karaaslan, Kubranur Cebi; Aysin, Meryem; Erden, BahattinThe COVID-19 pandemic has not only affected individuals and societies physically, but has also resulted in a series of mental health problems, given the course of the disease, the speed at which it spread, and the measures taken in response to its rapid spread. Many studies have reported that hope can be an important factor in mitigating the mental health impacts of the pandemic. The present study aims to identify the factors affecting hope during the pandemic. The dataset of the study is the microdata from the Life Satisfaction Survey obtained from the Turkish Statistical Institute. This survey is conducted by an official institution. The sample size of the study is designed to produce estimates on a Turkish basis and the sampling method is a two-stage stratified cluster sampling. 20,176 people were included in the study. For the a priori analysis of the dataset, chi-square independence tests were used followed by binary logistic regression and binary probit regression models from discrete choice models. As a result of the study, it was determined that age, marital status, education level, satisfaction with income level, income change, welfare level, debt status, happiness level, satisfaction with health services, satisfaction with health, satisfaction with education, satisfaction with social life, satisfaction with personal care, feeling safe, environmental awareness, being involved in religion, and experiencing gender pressure are effective on individuals' hopes for their future. It has been determined that individuals with a positive socioeconomic level, who do not experience gender pressure, who can spare time for personal care, who are satisfied with health services, who are healthy, who are happy, who have environmental awareness, who feel safe in the region they live in, who are satisfied with the education they receive, and who are satisfied with their social life are more hopeful about the future. Among these factors, happiness level, welfare level, and feeling safe were found to be strong predictors of hope. Addressing the factors that positively affect individuals' hopefulness for the future, particularly by decision-makers and policymakers, will contribute to the establishment of a better social structure.Article Investigation of Factors Affecting the Number of Automobiles Owned by Households: Count Data Model(Istanbul Univ, Sch Business, 2022) Karaaslan, Kubranur CebiThe automobile industry is a service-oriented industry that is constantly developing. Since almost 80% of the energy demand is met through imported fossil resources. In this perspective, household fuel choice is crucial, since it makes up a substantial part of total energy demand. Furthermore, traditional fuels are important sources of indoor air pollution and related health hazards. For this reason, in this study the cross-sectional data obtained from the Household Budget Survey conducted by the Turkish Statistical Institute, containing a total of 47,573 households, is used. Multinomial Probit and Nested Logit models are utilized to determine the factors affecting Turkish household heating preferences. According to esti-mations, dwelling characteristics such as type, age, size and heating system of dwellings are generally found to be an important predictors of fuel choice. Moreover, household characteristics, such as income, education level, spending and saving habits, household size, employment status, marital status, and credit card ownership are generally found to be statistically significant factors. Finally, it is suggested that government support is important for a smooth transition from traditional fuels to modern fuels.(c) 2022 Elsevier B.V.
