Article Coronavirus Anxiety, Fear Level, and Awareness of Nursing Students Starting Face-to Education(Springer Heidelberg, 2025) Demir Dogan, Melike; Uludag, ElanurAimsThis study was designed to determine the coronavirus-associated anxiety, fear, and awareness of nursing students who will start face-to-face education.MethodsIn this descriptive and cross-sectional study, the data were collected using the socio-demographic characteristics form, Fear of COVID-19 Scale, Coronavirus Anxiety Scale-Short Form, and COVID-19 Awareness Scale between 29 November 2021 and 1 January 2022. The sample consisted of 344 nursing students.ResultsThe mean age of the students participating in the study was 20.49 & PLUSMN;1.78. It was determined that there was a significant difference between gender and the total score of Fear of COVID-19 Scale and the total score of COVID-19 Awareness Scale. Individuals having a nuclear family had significantly higher levels of fear of COVID-19 than those having an extended family. There was a positive and significant relationship between number of vaccinations, age, total score of the Coronavirus anxiety scale, total score of the COVID-19 awareness scale, total score of the hygiene subscale, total score of distance subscale, and total score of mask subscale. It was determined that there was a negative significant correlation between age and the total score of COVID-19 awareness scale and the total score of the Coronavirus anxiety scale.ConclusionIt was determined that women's levels of fear of COVID-19 and coronavirus awareness levels were significantly higher compared to their male counterparts. The fear of COVID-19 increased as the number of vaccination, age. As the fear of COVID-19 increased, the level of COVID-19 awareness also increased.Article Examining the Effects of Arcs-Based Urinary Catheter Education on First-Year Nursing Students' Learning Motivation, Self-Efficacy and Clinical Skill Levels(Elsevier Sci Ltd, 2025) Erden, Yasemin; Uludag, Elanur; Albayrak, OzlemAim: This study aims to examine the effect of urinary catheter application training based on the ARCS motivation model on learning motivation, self-efficacy and skill levels of nursing students. Background: Effective clinical skills training in nursing requires motivational and supportive teaching methods. The ARCS model promotes active learning through attention, relevance, confidence and satisfaction. Design: The study employed a randomised controlled pre-test-post-test experimental design. Method: The study was conducted between April and June 2025 with 56 students studying in the nursing department of a university in eastern Turkey and taking the course of basic principles and practices in nursing. The participants were divided into experimental and control groups by a simple randomisation method. Both groups were trained in urinary catheterisation with the traditional method. The students in the experimental group received urinary catheterisation training based on the ARCS motivation model. Data were collected using the "Introductory Information Form", "Motivation Scale for Instructional Material", "Academic Self-Efficacy Scale" and "Urinary Catheter Application Skill Assessment Form". Results: The students in the experimental group showed a statistically significant increase in the "Attention", "Relevance", "Confidence", "Satisfaction" dimensions and "Skill Assessment Form" scores in the post-test (p 0.05). Conclusion: The findings of the study revealed that the urinary catheter application training structured based on the ARCS motivation model significantly improved nursing students' learning motivation and psychomotor skills. However, the training did not have a statistically significant effect on students' academic self-efficacy levels.Article Motivational Interviewing with Pender's Health Promotion Model: Diabetics Self-Management Behavior(Sage Publications Inc, 2024) Uludag, Elanur; Kasikci, MagfiretThe purpose of the study was to determine the effects of motivational interviewing as based on Pender's health promotion model (HPM) on diabetes self-management behavior among individuals with Type 2 diabetes. Apart from their routine care, the individuals in the intervention group were given a 30-45-minute motivational interview based on Pender's HPM once a week for three months. Statistically significant differences were determined between the groups in the total score of the scales and its sub-dimensions (p < .05). The intervention applied in the present study can be used as an effective and easy method through which to develop and maintain diabetes self-management behaviors.Article Privacy Perceptions in the Care Provided to Immigrants: A Qualitative Study with Nurses(Wiley, 2025) Uludag, Elanur; Nacak, Ulviye AydanIntroductionThe present study sheds light on the care provided to immigrants by revealing the problems faced by nurses due to the privacy perceptions of such patients.MethodThis qualitative study constituted a sample of 15 nurses who had previously cared for immigrants. Data were collected through semi-structured individual interviews and processed through thematic analysis.ResultsSix sub-themes were identified from the thematic analysis of the interviews: (1) what first comes to mind when thinking of privacy; (2) the difficulties encountered while providing care to immigrants (e.g., cultural factors); (3) the effects of cultural values on the perceptions of privacy held; (4) the differences between immigrants and nurses as to their perceptions of privacy; (5) the difficult situations encountered by nurses when providing care due to the perceptions of privacy held by patients; (6) the solutions perceived as to the problems encountered by nurses due to the perceptions of privacy held by patients.DiscussionThis study highlights that differences exist between nurses' and immigrant patients' perceptions of privacy. It has been found that immigrants from Eastern cultures associate privacy with bodily privacy, which results in nurses facing difficulties when caring for immigrant patients of the opposite gender.Article Use of Creative Drama to Facilitate the Questioning of Sexual Expression by Nursing Students: A Qualitative Study(Springer, 2024) Uludag, Elanur; Albayrak, Ozlem; Kasikci, MagfiretTo prepare future nurses in their providing of holistic care to patients, creative drama activities involving hands-on learning and experiential exercises are important in developing requisite skills. The aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of education based on creative drama among nursing students, specifically in relation to facilitating discussions as to the expression of sexuality-an important aspect of patient care. A qualitative descriptive research design was employed in this study, therein utilizing semi-structured interviews as the data collection method. The dataset is comprised of field notes from interviews conducted with 16 students. Thematic analysis was employed to analyze the data and MAXQDA analysis software was used for data organization purposes. Five themes and twenty-one codes were identified. The themes which emerged from the data are; (1) the difficulties faced in questioning expressions of sexuality, (2) the factors which affect sexual care, (3) the feelings experienced by student nurses when taking patient histories, (4) the inclusion of creative drama in nursing education and (5) the perceptions held among student nurses towards the creative drama method. The 21 codes which emerged included cultural and social structures, the perception of sexuality as a private matter, gender discrimination, societal knowledge gaps, age-related concerns, patient hesitation, personal comfort when discussing sexuality, the encountering of negative reactions from patients, the ability to communicate comfortably, the comprehensive fulfilment of the caregiving role and the students' feelings of shame or boredom. Providing education as to the expression of sexuality, accompanied by creative drama activities, shall enable students to address and explore this challenging area and to provide holistic care.
