Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of formal and informal institutional structures in shaping individuals’ collaboration behavior with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Turkey, from the perspective of institutional economics. Institutional economics analyzes both written (legal regulations, state policies) and unwritten (social norms, cultural values, social networks) rules that structure economic and social behavior. In this context, the project seeks to empirically identify the institutional dynamics that influence individuals’ decisions to engage in voluntary collaboration with NGOs. The research will analyze the relationship between individuals’ evaluations of institutional structures and their collaborative behavior with NGOs. A binary logistic regression model will be employed to statistically test the determinants of this behavior. The study aims to contribute theoretically to the institutional economics literature while also producing policy-relevant insights for fostering stronger cooperation between NGOs and society. The limited number of studies in this area in Turkey, along with the growing importance of civic collaboration, constitute the primary motivation for this research.
