Abstract
This study aims to investigate the relationship between dark personality traits in managers and nepotism (favoritism in hiring, favoritism in promotion, and procedural favoritism), as well as to explore how Machiavellianism, psychopathy, and narcissism, which are dark personality traits, impact nepotism. To measure the relationship between nepotism and the manager's dark personality traits, data were obtained using a survey technique within the scope of the research. A total of 181 valid responses were collected from employees working in star-rated hotels in the Palandöken Ski Resort in Erzurum province and included in the analysis. It was found that Machiavellianism significantly and positively influenced promotion (r= 0.616, p=0.000) and favoritism in the hiring processes (r= 0.698, p=0.000). Similarly, narcissism was observed to significantly and positively affect promotion (r= 0.421, p=0.000) and favoritism in the hiring processes. Through the analysis of the data obtained from the research on employees' perceptions, it was revealed that managers with Machiavellian and narcissistic personality traits tend to increase favoritism practices in the hiring and promotion processes.
