Abstract
The geography of Anatolia, defined as the cradle of civilizations, is home to numerous historical structures on its lands, which are considered one of the most active seismic regions in the world. The ancient city of Erzurum, which was the capital of the Saltuklu Principality, which is accepted as the first Turkish-Islamic state established in Anatolia, is an ancient settlement that stands out in terms of its historical structure diversity. In order to draw attention to this feature of the city, the year 2020 was declared as the Year of Saltuklu by the Yakutiye District Municipality of Erzurum, and various activities were planned in this context. This thesis is about the structural analysis and dynamic identification of the Emir Saltuk Cupola, which is one of the Three Cupolas located in Erzurum city centre within the framework of the 2020 Saltuklu Year activities. First, the material characterization of the cupola structure was studied; the physical and mechanical properties of the local camber stone used in the construction of the cupola were investigated experimentally. After the theoretical modal analysis study on the finite element model, the dynamic behaviour parameters of the cupola were obtained with the Operational Modal Analysis application performed on the structure. As a result of the theoretical and experimental studies, it was determined that the first two mode shapes overlap with each other and have lateral translational motion. It has been observed that there is approximately a 7% and 10% difference between theoretical modal frequencies estimated by using the mechanical properties of the masonry structure calculated over the Eurocode 6 (1996) legislation and the frequency values of experimental results, respectively.
