Abstract
Veriler, Statistical Package for the Social Sciences for Windows 22 paket programı ile analiz edilmiştir. Aim: This study evaluates university students' attitudes toward dating violence and gender roles. Methods: The research was conducted between 29.09.2022 and 25.06.2024 on a total of 358 students, 180 women and 178 men, studying at Erzurum Technical University, who met the inclusion criteria. The sampling was taken from all faculties at Erzurum Technical University. In the sample, equal or close selection was made and stratified in terms of the number of students from the faculties of Sports Sciences, Science, Architecture-Engineering, Health Sciences, Literature and Economics and Administrative Sciences. The research was conducted descriptively and cross-sectionally. Within the scope of the research, Introductory Information Form, Gender Roles Attitude Scale and Dating Violence Attitude Scale were used as data collection tools. The data were analyzed with the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) for Windows 22 package program. The compliance of the data with the assumption of normality was calculated with the 'Kurtosis' and 'Skewness' coefficient numbers. Results: 50.3% of the participants are women, 52.8% are in the 21-25 age group, 67.6% do not have an existing relationship, and 14.2% have experienced domestic violence. 1.4% of the participants have been exposed to violence in their current relationship, 1.4% have committed dating violence in their current relationship, 5.9% have been exposed to dating violence in the past, and 2.0% have committed violence against their dates in the past. It was determined that there was a difference between the total score average of gender roles attitudes according to gender and whether the person had used violence against his/her date in the past. The average gender role attitude score of men was found to be higher than that of women. It was determined that there was a difference between the dating violence attitude total score average according to gender and current relationship. The dating violence attitude total score average of men and those in existing relationships was found to be higher. It was determined that there was a statistically significant, positive and low-level relationship between gender role attitudes and dating violence attitude score. Conclusion: In line with these findings, it is observed that awareness of dating violence increases as individuals' egalitarian attitudes toward gender roles increase. Keywords: Flirt, severity, dating violence, university student, nursing
