Abstract
Kenan Hulusi Koray, one of the prolific writers of the Republican Era, reflected the social structure and human relationships of his time through his stories. In his works, the relationship between humans and animals is notably emphasized. Many of his stories are set in rural areas, reflecting the lifestyle of the people, their connection with nature, and the role of animals in daily life. In Koray's narration, animals are not merely natural beings; at times, they serve as narrative tools and, at others, as symbolic elements fulfilling a metaphorical function. In this context, his stories reveal both the literary tendencies of his era and the fluid interplay between nature, humans, and animals. In the study, the ecocriticism approach, which bridges literature and ecology, was explained, and perspectives on animal studies were conveyed. In line with this theoretical foundation, analyses were conducted on how the author structured the nature-human-animal relationship The roles undertaken by animals in Kenan Hulusi Koray's stories have been examined. Animals are not merely depicted as entities in the stories; they also appear as elements carrying various meanings. At times, they serve as similes, and at others, as tools of social critique. In this context, the stories in which animals appear as the main theme and those where they are employed through similes and metaphors have been identified and explained under two separate headings.
