Abstract
Externalities may arise in industrial areas due to many reasons. However, for an industrial region to develop and achieve success, the region should benefit from social relations as a whole. The importance of social relations for industrial regions has been frequently mentioned by researchers such as Dei Ottati and Becattini. Therefore, in this study, it is aimed to examine the externalities that the textile companies established in Erzurum 2nd Organized Industrial Zone will reveal and the effect of social relations on these externalities. In the study, data were collected from the employees of textile companies by questionnaire and from the administrative and expert personnel by interview technique. In addition, data were collected from companies located in the organized industrial zone, which are not textile manufacturers, by interview technique. The data collected by the questionnaire were analyzed using the SPSS program and the probit model selected as the appropriate model was estimated. When the marginal effects calculated as a result of the probit model estimation were examined, it was determined that the social relations variable had a significant positive effect on the externalities. As a result of the analysis of the data collected by the interview technique, it was concluded that social relations provide advantages and benefits in facilitating information exchange, preventing disruptions in production, facilitating communication with customers and worker exchange.
