Abstract
Investigation of the Effects of Bullying and Violence Tendency on Orientation to Kickboxing Sport Aim: The aim of this study is to determine whether bullying, violence in the family and environment have a significant effect on students' orientation towards kickboxing. Methods: In this study, the relational screening design, one of the general screening models of quantitative research methods, was used. A total of 285 participants, 138 males and 147 females, who were licensed kickboxers between the ages of 13-18, were included in the study. The individuals participating in the study were selected among children attending kickboxing courses and clubs in different regions and provinces of Turkey. 'Personal Information Form', 'Peer Bullying Scale' and 'Violence Tendency Scale' were used to collect data from the participants. SPSS 26.0 package programme was used to analyse the data obtained. Results: A significant difference was found between participants who were directed to kickboxing by their families and those who were directed for other reasons (p<0.05). Additionally, those who experienced violence from their environment were found to have a higher tendency towards violence (p<0.05). The study identified significant differences in the physical bullying sub-dimension based on the participants' exposure to violence from their environment (p<0.05). Furthermore, significant differences were found in bullying levels according to exposure to violence from the environment in terms of physical bullying, verbal bullying, exclusion, spreading rumors, damaging property, sexual bullying, and overall scores (p<0.05). Conclusion: It was found that participants directed to kickboxing by their families exhibited lower levels of bullying behavior and experienced less bullying compared to those who were directed to the sport for other reasons. Additionally, those who experienced violence or bullying were observed to display similar behaviors as a form of imitation Keywords: Peer Bullying, Violence Tendency, Kickboxing, Bully, Victim
