Abstract
Historical structures shaped by the traditions, customs and values of societies by carrying the traces of various cultures from the past to the present are concrete examples that constitute the national integrity of a nation between its past and present. Today, when we examine the sources of the past, we see that many fires occurred in the Ottoman Period and as a result of these fires, not only the structures of the cities were wiped out, but also the original forms of many of the existing works of art were changed. It is noteworthy that these fires occurred especially around Istanbul. We see from the sources examined that there was an intense fire in Istanbul until Sultan Abdulhamıd II and that these fires have been continuing since 1876. Fires have an important place in the history of the city. Because, if the fire that starts in a house is not intervened early, it reaches a level that will burn a neighborhood. For this reason, the most important point after a fire is early intervention. The fires in many districts of Istanbul not only changed the image of the city, but also caused many problems. The fires, which negatively affected the Ottoman economy, adversely affected not only the physical appearance of the city, but also its society. Many art and cultural works of the city have been deleted and the concrete examples of the works to be left today have decreased. In this study, information was given about the fires in Istanbul that occurred during the reign of Sultan II. Abdulhamıd and the reasons why these fires occurred, and what measures were taken in the following periods to stop the fires.
