Abstract
Aim: This study aims to analyze the levels of cyber victimization and cyberbullying among students of the Faculty of Sports Sciences at Erzurum Technical University. Methods: The population of the study consists of students enrolled in the Faculty of Sports Sciences. The sample group was determined using the convenience sampling method within the framework of a survey model and comprised a total of 145 students (64 male and 71 female) studying at Erzurum Technical University's Faculty of Sports Sciences. The data collection tools used in the study included a 'personal information form' as well as cyber victimization and cyberbullying scales. The data were collected online via Google Forms. The skewness and kurtosis values of the obtained data were examined, and since the data followed a normal distribution, parametric tests were applied. Frequency analysis was conducted to determine the demographic characteristics of the participants. An independent samples t-test was used to analyze differences based on variables such as gender, social media usage, exposure to bullying, and exposure to cyberbullying. Additionally, a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was employed for variables such as age, grade level, and type of social media used. The significance level was set at p<0.05. Findings: The results of the study indicated a significant difference in participants' levels of exposure to bullying and cyberbullying based on the social media usage variable. However, no significant differences were found concerning gender, age, or grade level variables. Conclusion: When examining the levels of exposure to bullying and cyberbullying among students enrolled in the Faculty of Sports Sciences, a significant difference was observed in the 'done to me' dimension based on social media usage and exposure to bullying. Similarly, regarding the variable of exposure to cyberbullying, a significant difference was found in the 'done to me' dimension in favor of the participants. These findings suggest that the 'done to me' dimension is a distinguishing factor in the levels of exposure to bullying and cyberbullying.
