Bu önemli konumda kuruluşunun esas nedeni olan askeri amacın yanında tarih boyunca ticaret şehri olarak da bilinmiştir. Ticari bir merkez olmasından ötürü Dünya ve Türkiye'de yaşanan olaylardan doğrudan etkilenmiştir. Dünya ekonomilerine büyük etkide bulunan 1929 Buhranının etkileri bitmeden, İkinci Dünya Savaşı'yla birlikte devlet ekonomileri temelden sarsılmış Türkiye savaşa girmemesine rağmen bu sarsıntıdan payını almıştır. Bütün bu gelişmelere Doğu Anadolu Bölgesi'nin ticaret merkezi konumunda olan Erzurum kayıtsız kalamamış, daha Birinci Dünya Savaşı'nın etkilerini üzerinden atamadan bütün bu olumsuz şartlardan etkilenmiştir. Tezimizde Türkiye Cumhuriyeti tarihi ve ekonomisinde dönüm noktaları olan İkinci Dünya Savaşı ve sonrasında yaşanılan gelişmelere, tek parti döneminden çok partili hayata geçiş süreciyle beraber gelişen özgürlükçü ekonominin Erzurum'a etkilerine; dönemin gazeteleri, arşiv belgeleri ve doküman incelemeleriyle ışık tutulmaya çalışılmıştır.Erzurum; was established at an important position that connects ancient lands such as Anatolia-Iran-Caucasia and Mesopotamia. In addition to its military purpose, which is the main reason for its establishment in this important position, it has been known as a commercial town throughout history. Because it is a commercial center, events that occurred both in Turkey and the world had directly affected the city. Before the effects of the 1929 Depression, which had a great impact on the world economies, were over, with the World War II, state economies were greatly distressed and although Turkey was not a participant in this war, it has taken its share of this economic distress. Erzurum, which is the trade center of the Eastern Anatolia Region, could not remain unconcerned to all these developments and was affected by all these adverse circumstances even before it was able to overcome the effects of the World War I.
