Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 2Comparison of the Energy and Economic Performance of a LEED Certified Educational Building Located in a Cold Climate Region with the National Standard(Gazi Univ, Fac Engineering Architecture, 2025) Celik, Ali; Manay, Eyuphan; Sahin, BayramPurpose: The purpose of this study; To ensure the creation of new national standards and regulations in line with international norms and standards, where energy is prioritized, and which includes criteria that will make a positive contribution to the environment without the need for foreign certification. Theory and Methods: With the methods of this study; 1. Finding the primary energy consumption and emission values of the LEED certified reference building, 2. Evaluation of the energy performance of the reference building after use, 3. Conducting energy modeling and determining the energy consumption and emission values for the reference building if it is designed according to national standards, 4. Energy and emission data for both cases are evaluated for the reference building. Results: The additional costs incurred for a LEED certified building, especially those aimed at reducing energy consumption, can finance themselves in a very short time. Therefore, although measures that increase energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions have additional costs, they provide continuous savings throughout the life of the building. For this reason, it is necessary to evaluate the expenditures on measures to increase energy efficiency not as an economic cost but as an investment with high medium and long-term returns. Conclusion: This work; It also shows that LEED certification assessment tools will not give the same results for different climate zones. For this reason, it is emphasized that countries should determine their green building priorities.Article Development of Densovirus-Based Bioinsecticide (Tenebriokiller) for Use in the Control of Mealworm, Tenebrio Molitor L., 1758 (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae)(Entomological Society Turkey, Ege University, 2025) Guler, Yasemin A. S.; Eroglu, Gozde BusraTenebriomolitorL., 1758 (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) is one of the major storage pests affecting a large proportion of pasta, flour, starch, and rice. Densoviruses are biocontrol agents with a single-stranded DNA genome that is enveloped and very small in size. In this study, crude TmDNV-TR was formulated using bovine gelatin, and the formulation called Tenebriokiller was prepared in T & uuml;rkiye. The dose of virus in the formulation was determined to be 2.8x108 copies/mL-1. Five different doses were used (2.8x108, 2.8x107, 2.8x106, 2.8x105, and 2.8x104 copies/mL-1) against 10th instar T. molitor larvae. The mortality was detected 100% (LD50: 4 x106 copies/mL-1, LT50: 6 day, LD95: 2.2 x108 copies/mL-1 and LT95: 9 day) by day 14. The stability of the crude virus and Tenebriokiller was tested at different storage temperatures (4 and 25 degrees C) over various periods (3 and 6 months). Accordingly, the mortality rate of the fresh formulation was 100% as in the previous step, while at 4 degrees C the mortality rate at the end of 3 and 6 months remained 100%, and at 25 degrees C, the mortality rate at the end of 3 and 6 months was 98% and 95% respectively, at the end of day 14. Preliminary pathogenicity tests in the laboratory showed that the virus was highly lethal to the target organism. The virus was therefore formulated to maintain its stability during storage, and a prototype formulation was developed.Article Citation - WoS: 2Citation - Scopus: 2Examination of the Damage Limits of a Historical Mosque, Konya Sultan Selim Mosque Example(Gazi Univ, Fac Engineering Architecture, 2024) Kocaman, Irfan; Kazaz, IlkerThe idealized global base shear force-top displacement relationship of the mosque was determined by drawing a backbone curve that bounds the force-displacement point values (F, D) representing critical actions, such as maximum force, maximum displacement, cyclic unloading paths, initiation and end of strength and stiffness reduction on the hysteresis curves from time-history analysis. Two different material parameters were employed in the analyses to account for the variation in material properties. Values from the linear response region were also taken to clarify the initial stiffness. In addition, the selected (F, D) points include almost all the values in the cycle in which the mosque is considered to have collapsed. Failure was decided by evaluating the load-deformation hysteresis curves and strain values (damage) on the finite element model. The backbone curve was idealized in three-linear form and damage limits of historical Sultan Selim mosque were defined on this curve (Figure A).Purpose:This paper presents the details of the seismic performance evaluation of the historical Konya Karapinar Sultan Selim mosque. The effect of variation in material properties on the seismic performance of historical mosques is examined by employing possible lower and upper bound values of modulus of elasticity (E). It is aimed to determine the reliability of existing damage limits on masonry structures.Theory and Methods: A detailed finite element model of the historical Konya Sultan Selim mosque was created. For modulus of elasticity E=200fc and E=750fc were assigned to finite element models. Nonlinear time-history analyzes were carried out under five different ground motions. The force-drift ratio curves of the mosque were idealized as defined in Figure A. The damage limits for each performance levels of the mosque were determined. Results: The calculated drift ratio limits were found to be lower than the limits recommended in the codes. The results of structural analyses available in the literature also indicate to lower displacement capacity of masonry structures than the collapse limits given in codes. This indicates that existing code limits provides unsafe prediction of seismic performance of masonry mosque. Conclusion: The proposed approach in this study should be applied on different historical mosques to determine more generalized damage limits. It is also noted that the seismic behavior and damage limits of historical mosques are different from other masonry structures.Article Citation - Scopus: 2An Examination of the Interaction Patterns and Argumentative Quality in Collaborative Writing(Children Research Center, 2024) Kırmızı, Ö.; Er, H.K.Given that interaction patterns are one of the most critical components of the collaborative writing (CW) strategy, especially regarding text quality, the present study investigates the interaction patterns of argumentative text quality in CW at advanced-level undergraduate L2 writing. Ninety-five undergraduate learners participated in the research and formed 37 groups. They were asked to write one collaborative task and record their CW sessions. The data in the present study were collected from students’ recordings, written work, and the researchers’ field notes. The study used Toulmin’s Argumentative writing rubric (AWR) to evaluate the participants’ written work regarding argumentative elements. The interactional patterns of the students were coded based on the framework. This framework includes interactional patterns like eliciting, greeting, justifying, requesting, questioning, or acknowledging. As a next step, we formed four interactional groups based on interactional patterns, and their written production was coded using Toulmin’s model. The findings indicated a close relationship between interaction patterns and the quality of argumentation. © 2024 Children Research Center. Despite its wide usage applications such as aircraft turbine blades, aircraft structural components and rocket engines, it is a difficult material to machine, manufacture and surface treatment with traditional methods. Non-traditional finishing and surface treatment methods namely abrasive flow machining (AFM) and shot peening processes are applied to obtain desired surface quality for Ti-6Al-4V and difficult to cut materials. The newly developed flow peening (GOV) process, which has the surface finishing capability of the AFM and the compressive residual stress generation capability of the shot peening process together, has been experimentally compared in Ti-6Al-4V workpieces pre -prepared by wire electric discharge cutting machine. The effects of GOV and AFM process parameters on material surfaces were investigated to evaluate the surface roughness, surface quality, material removal amount and white layer thickness. The best surface roughness value, R a was obtained 0.92 g m and the highest amount of chip removed from the surface was 3.6 mg by GOV process while these values were 0.53 g m and 1989.15 mg by AFM. While the GOV process improves the surface quality by removing less amount of chip, the AFM process reaches approximate surface quality of GOV process by removing excess chip.Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1Exploring the Neuroprotective Effects of Black Garlic Ethanol Extract on Acrylamide-Induced Brain Damage Through Apoptotic and Neurodegenerative Pathways(Ankara Univ, 2024) Gezer, Arzu; Karadag Sari, Ebru; Gelen, Volkan; Elis Yildiz, Sevda; Ozkaraca, Mustafa; Bedir, Gursel; Elis, IsaThis research focused on exploring the therapeutic impact of black garlic ethanol extract (BGE) on the brain tissue of rats exposed to acrylamide (ACR). Twenty-four female rats were divided into four groups. Rats in the control group were given 1 ml of saline by oral gavage for 14 days. The BG group received 5 mg/200 g of BGE extract on a daily basis. The ACR group was administered 40 mg/kg of ACR daily. Rats in the BGE+ACR group received both 5 mg/200 g of BG extract and 40 mg/kg of ACR daily. Brain tissue samples were collected at the study's conclusion for histopathological, immunohistochemical, and biochemical analyses. Hematoxylin-eosin staining was performed to examine the general structure of the brain tissue. Erk1/2, pERK1/2, and c-fos were analyzed immunohistochemically; Bcl-2, Caspase-3, ATF6, CREB, and NfkB-p65 protein levels were analyzed by Western blotting; and MDA, SOD, CAT, GSH, TNF-alpha, IL-1(3, and IL-6 activities and levels were analyzed using ELISA kits. It was determined that ACR application raised the levels of Erk1/2, p-ERK1/2, c-Fos, NfkB-p65, caspase-3, MDA, IL-6, IL-1-(3, and TNF-alpha, and BGE supplementation decreased this increase. ACR exposure caused a decrease in Bcl-2, ATF6, CREB, CAT, GSH, and SOD expressions, and BGE supplementation prevented or increased this decrease. Based on the findings obtained, it can be said that the ethanol extract of black garlic has antioxidative and anti-inflammatory effects, prevents cell damage, and has positive effects on apoptosis in rat brain tissue.Article Citation - WoS: 2FG-Morphisms and FG-Extensions(Hacettepe Univ, Fac Sci, 2014) Elmali, Ceren Sultan; Ugur, TamerWe investigate the relations between Fan-Gottesman compactification and categories. Bektashism, on the other hand, is a sect that was shaped around Kalenderism in the eighteenth century and emphasised universal values such as humanity and love. Although they emerged at different dates and in different geographies, Buddhism and Bektashism share some similar symbols and meanings. Both focus on universal values deep within humanity and bring people together spiritually. In both traditions, the deer figure is a symbol of nature and natural balance. In Buddhism and Bektashism, the deer is often associated with the grace, peace and balance of nature. These figures represent the human connection with nature and the beauty of nature. In addition, the deer figure is a symbol of spiritual enlightenment in both faith traditions. In Buddhism, the deer figure is associated with the Buddha’s enlightenment and spiritual journey, while in Bektashism, the deer figure represents the finding of inner balance and spiritual quest. In addition, the deer figure is associated with concepts such as peace, grace and serenity in both traditions. The deer, which is seen as a part of the spiritual quest, expresses the finding of inner balance. Within Buddhism, the deer metamorphosis is a concept that usually carries a symbolic meaning and is discussed with various interpretations in different Buddhist texts. Especially in texts about the life and teachings of the Buddha, deer are used as an important symbol. Haji Bektash Veli’s donning of the deer’s underpants likewise symbolises his spiritual journey and inner transformation. Entering the deer’s underwear represents the quest to get rid of worldly ties and reach spiritual peace. In our study, after giving information about the deer symbol in Buddhism, the deer metamorphosis in Buddhism will be mirrored in the similarity of the deer metamorphosis in Bektashism, and witnesses and narratives about the deer will be presented to the reader through our study. © 2024 Ankara Haci Bayram Veli University. Although Turks have spread over a vast geography in different periods throughout history, they have always maintained their deep respect and loyalty to Hoca Ahmet Yesevi. Especially among the states ruling in the Turkestan region, Yesevi gained a great reputation and was accepted as the people’s spiritual leader and ruler. Among these states are the Timurids, who began to dominate in Turkestan in the 14th century. Many historical sources and narratives clearly reveal the influence of Hoca Ahmet Yesevi on the Timurids. Although the accuracy of the information in the sources is controversial, it is important to show the spiritual power of Yesevi on the Timurids. The Timurids, who are generally known for their military successes, fierce political moves and warrior identity, have drawn a strong image on the stage of history with these aspects. However, this period also had a more effective spiritual aspect not limited to military and political events. The thoughts, teachings and spiritual guidance of Hoca Ahmet Yesevi strongly influenced the Timurid state, and various sources have expressed these influences. This research aims to go beyond the traditional historiographical focus on the military and political achievements of Timur and the Timurids to examine the spiritual world of this powerful empire and, in particular, to reveal the power of Hoca Ahmad Yesevi and Yeseviism on the Timurids. © 2025 Ankara Haci Bayram Veli University. However, in our country, the coarse and fine fraction of aggregates used in Stone Mastic Asphalt design should be obtained from the same quarry according to the Highways Technical Specifications. In this study, experimental studies were carried out with the assumption that using basalt for the coarse aggregate fraction and limestone for the fine aggregate fraction would yield positive results. In the experimental study, fracture mechanics properties were determined by the Illinois Flexibility Index test in accordance with AASHTO T 393 standard. As a result of this study, it was determined that the use of limestone in the fine aggregate fraction of Stone Mastic Asphalt does not produce negative results. © 2025, Turkish Chamber of Civil Engineers. Mathnawis are works that can be considered as the equivalent of today’s novels or stories in classical Turkish literature. Many of the dual love stories, some religious—sufistic stories and works such as mawlid, surname and shehrengiz were written using the mathnawi verse form. In our literary history, there are works whose existence is known but not yet accessible, and some works have never been mentioned in biographical sources. One of these works written in Turkish literature, whose existence hasn’t been known until today, is the mathnawi named Hakikatname, written by Diyarbakırlı Azmi and reflecting religious-sufistic characteristics. Although it is not known when the mathnawi was written, based on the information about the life of Azmi from Diyarbakır, it can be claimed that it was written during the poet’s stay abroad. The only copy of the work that we can determine today is in the form of two leaves in a journal in the Mektebetü Ömer Hamedan section of the Medina Melik Abdülaziz Library. In this study, firstly brief information will be given about the life of Azmi from Diyarbakır, and then the mathnawi named Hakikatname will be discussed in terms of form and content. After giving information about the subject of the mathnawi, the reason for its writing and its style, its transcribed text will be given. The transcription text prepared according to the text publication procedures, consists of one hundred seven couplets. For this reason, the work can be classified among the religious-mystical short mathnawis written in classical Turkish literature. This study was undertaken to make a little contribution to the history of Turkish literature. In addition, Diyarbakırlı Azmi’s unknown mathnawi named Hakikatname is expected to contribute to literary history researchers and the biography of Azmi. © 2024 Ankara Haci Bayram Veli University. In this respect, EIS, fuel crossover test, and fuel cell performance test at the mu DMFCs sample cell are performed at room temperature on a porous silicon-based membrane that was produced for passive mode mu DMFCs as a proton exchange membrane. The reason for performing the fuel crossover test is to ensure the silicon opened pores along the silicon wafer and to examine the fuel permeability of the membrane. The fuel crossover test shows that the fuel cell provides energy for about 60 min with a 50 mL fuel. EIS reveals proton permeability of proton exchange membrane. The calculated value of the conductivity of the membrane is 0.0016 S/cm. OCV of the system is 0.4V, whereas values (with highest power density is 0.1 mW/cm(2) and with the highest current density is 0.39 mA/cm(2)) are low. However, porous silicon is not a natural proton conductor. Hence, these values can be increased by different ways such as porous silicon functionalized, or serial connection of fuel cells. On the other hand, the value of OCV is consistent with the previous studies. In sum, this study presents a simple, cost-effective, and short time-consuming method for the production of porous silicon as proton-conducting membrane behavior.Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 2Optimizing Order-Picking Warehouse Designs Using Collaborative Robots(Gazi Univ, Fac Engineering Architecture, 2024) Tutam, MahmutWith the rapid integration of digital technologies into e-commerce platforms, online sales have increased dramatically in recent years. Additionally, customers' awareness of the global competition among hundreds of e-commerce companies has increased their expectations such as high quality, low price, fast and free delivery like never before. In response, e-commerce companies have started revisiting their logistics systems to survive in such a business environment by meeting rising expectations and minimizing operational costs. Thus, most companies have been focused on order-picking processes, which are characterized by high operating times and labor costs. Accordingly, collaborative robots (cobots) have been used in many warehouses to make order-picking operations more efficient and profitable. Depending on the distance between pick locations, a cobot can either be ridden by the order picker or autonomously move to the next pick location while the order picker is walking. This paper proposes a bi-level programming model to find the optimal designs of order-picking warehouses employing collaborative robots. The top-level model is used to determine the optimal shape factor (width-to-depth ratio) minimizing the order-picking time; whereas, the bottom-level model determines the optimal route and collaboration strategy. Based on Monte Carlo simulation, it is shown that the shape factor significantly affects the length of an order-picking tour when the pick-list size is small. However, it is concluded that the optimal shape factor varies depending on the pick-list size.Article Citation - Scopus: 1The Power of a Legend: Examining the Historical Development of the Relationship Between the Janissaries and Bektashi(Istanbul University Faculty of Letters, 2022) Gül, A.This article discusses the relationship between the Janissary and Bektashism, one of the most interesting topics in Ottoman history. Based on archival records and the works of Ottoman writers, the study first reveals how the bond between the Janissaries and Bektashism was established and developed, then under the third heading attempts to show how Bektashi soldiers evaluated the manifestations of the relationship in the context of the literature, and finishes by examining the conditions that led to the prohibition of Bektashism right after the abolition of the Janissary organization. As a result, the bond was revealed to have developed as a legend that manifested itself at the end of the 16th century and became the official order of the Janissary Army at the beginning of the 17th, with the acceptance of the organization and Janissaries. It took a form that would be reflected in the entire history of the janissary in their customs and traditions. Some Bektashi and Janissary were concluded to have been on the same front under the conditions that developed again in the second half of the 18th century, which caused them to suffer the same fate in 1826. Based on this, the legend of the relationship still continues. © 2022 by the Author(s).
