Effects of Positive Psychotherapy-Based Education on Pain, Psychological Resilience, and Mental Well-Being After Lumbar Canal Stenosis Surgery: A Randomized Controlled Trial
(Wiley, 2025) Pasahan, Ramazan; Kavak Budak, Funda; Saritas, Serdar; Kavak, Mustafa; Erkan, Fatma Melike; Akar, Sabir
Aim This study was conducted to investigate the effects of positive psychotherapy-based education on pain, psychological resilience, and mental well-being after lumbar canal stenosis surgery.Materials and Methods A randomized controlled experimental study was conducted with 66 participants (33 control, 33 experimental) at the Brain and Neurosurgery Department of Medical Center X between March 2025 and July 2025. The control group received no intervention, while the experimental group received 8 weeks of psychoeducation based on positive psychotherapy. Pretests were administered to the control and experimental groups in March 2025. The training of the experimental group was administered between April 2025 and May 2025. Data collection tools included the Descriptive Characteristics Form, Pain Scale, Brief Resilience Scale, and Mental Well-Being Scale. It was determined that the data showed normal distribution, and parametric tests were used in the analyses. Chi-square and Fisher's exact tests were used to compare the descriptive characteristics of the patients in the experimental and control groups. A t-test was applied to the dependent and independent groups to determine the effect of the training.Findings In the study, no statistically significant difference was found in the comparison of the pretest pain, psychological resilience, and mental well-being scales of the control and experimental groups (p = 0.259, p = 0.177, p = 0.428). In the study, a statistically significant difference was found in the comparison of the posttest pain, psychological resilience, and mental well-being scales of the control and experimental groups (p = 0.001). In the study, a statistically significant difference was found in the pretest-posttest pain, psychological resilience and mental well-being scale total score averages of the experimental group (p = 0.001).Conclusion and Recommendations Positive psychotherapy-based education was effective in reducing pain and increasing psychological resilience, and mental well-being in patients after lumbar spinal stenosis surgery. Based on these findings, positive psychotherapy-based education can be recommended as an adjunct to pharmacological treatment for not only physical but also psychological recovery.

The Relationship Between Post-Traumatic Growth and Psychosocial Adaptation and Mental Well-Being in Oncological Gastrointestinal Surgery Patients: A Cross-Sectional Study
    (Routledge, 2025) Kavak, M.; ÇiÇek, E.; Kavak Budak, F.
The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between post-traumatic growth and psychosocial adaptation and mental well-being in oncological gastrointestinal surgery patients. This descriptive and correlational study was conducted between April 2025 and July 2025 at the general surgery department of Turgut Özal Medical Center with 60 oncological gastrointestinal surgery patients determined by power analysis. The data collection tools included the Demographic Characteristics Form, Post-Traumatic Growth Scale, Psychosocial Adjustment Scale, and Mental Well-Being Scale. Data were analyzed using independent samples t-test, analysis of variance, Pearson correlation analysis, and simple linear regression analysis. The mean total score of the Post-Traumatic Growth Scale was low (31.60±9.70), the mean total score of the Psychosocial Adjustment Scale was at a poor level (54.32±18.62), and the mean total score of the Mental Well-Being Scale indicated possible depression (19.11±5.16). A strong positive correlation was found between post-traumatic growth and psychosocial adjustment (r=0.887). A strong positive correlation was also observed between psychosocial adjustment and mental well-being (r=0.889). Furthermore, a strong positive correlation was identified between post-traumatic growth and mental well-being (r=0.986) (p<0.05). The results of the study suggest that post-traumatic growth increases psychosocial adjustment in oncological gastrointestinal surgery patients, which in turn indicates an improvement in spiritual well-being. © 2025 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Veri analizi IBM SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) Statistics 25 programı ile yapıldı. Bulgular: Hastaların %58.6’ının erkek, %80.5’i evli, %72’sinin nakilden sonra kullandığı immünosüpresif ilacın tacrolimus olduğu, %63.3’ünün Covid-19’a yakalanmadığı, %15.4’ünün Covid-19 nedeni ile yakınını kaybettiği saptandı. Kullanılan ölçekler arasındaki ilişkiyi belirlemek amacıyla basit doğrusal regresyon analizi yapıldı ve iki ölçek arasında istatistiksel olarak önemli ilişki saptanmadı (p>0.05) Sonuç: Covid-19 korkusunun ortalama seviyelerde olduğu saptandı. Buna rağmen hastaların immünosüpresif tedaviye uyumlarının yüksek olduğu saptandı. Dolayısıyla Covid-19 korkusunun immünosüpresif tedaviye uyumu etkilemediği belirlendi.
