The Story of Bayezıd-ı Bıstamı and the Clergyman and Evaluations on Two Different Variants of the Story
(Ankara Haci Bayram Veli University, 2025) Çavuşoğlu, H.
Bayezid-i Bistami, known as “sultanu’l-arifin” and “pîr-i Bistâm”, who has been the subject of many stories with his life, his Sufi personality and his perspective on createdbeings, especially humans, was one of the early Sufis who lived in the 3rd century of the Hijra. Bayezid-i Bistâmi, who deeply influenced both his contemporaries and the Sufis who came after him, stands out as a Sufi with an enthusiastic and sincere understanding of love. References have been made to him in many works of classical Turkish literature in verse and prose; his spiritual degrees, states, asceticism, piety and understanding of love have been frequently emphasized. His life, philosophy and wise anecdotes have also been given extensive space in menâkıpnames, tabakat books and biographies of saints. One of these stories is the Story of Bayezid-i Bistami and the Clergyman, which is the subject of this study. The story is a religious and mystical text that deals with the intellectual struggle between Bayezid and a clergyman. In the study, two variants of the story were determined and a total of eleven copies of these two variants were identified. Two of these copies were selected for detailed analysis. In the evaluations, it was determined that the texts, which did not have a transcription date, were written during the Classical Ottoman Turkish period. The language and content of the story were examined; the similarities and differences between the two variants were detailed. It was seen that these two variants, which differ especially in terms of plot, highlight Bayezid-i Bistami's piety, ascetic life and intellectual combativeness. In this study, the story and the thematic features identified in the text were discussed in order to contribute to different studies. © Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0)

A Pleasant Voice from the Balkans: Garîbî-i Vardarî and His Poems
    (Abidin Temizer, 2024) Çavuşoğlu, H.; Gözitok, M.A.
The Balkans, which is one of the fruitful geographies of Turkish literature, has made significant contributions to Anatolian Turkish literature with many literary works it has produced. Vardar Yenicesi, which is accepted as the "mecma‘-ı şuarâ u menba‘-ı zürefâ" of the Balkans by the Tezkire writers, is at the top of the list of regions that trained the most poets within the Ottoman cultural geography, with the 21 poets it brought up. Although his biography is included in the biographies, Garîbî, who is not as well-known as his contemporaries because his divan has not survived to the present day, is praised in the Tezkires of his time. In this study prepared on Garîbî-i Vardarî, whose poems are not known except for a few poems recorded in Tezkires and no comprehensive study has been done about him, first of all, the biography of the poet from primary sources will be given; his poems identified in tezkires, nazire and Eş'ar majmuas will be brought together; based on these poems, evaluations will be made on the poet's literary personality, art and poetry. © 2024, Abidin Temizer. Addendum to Feraizname Literature: Hazik’s Feraizü‘l-manzume
(Selim Hilmi Ozkan, 2024) Gözitok, M.A.; Çavuşoğlu, H.
The science of feraiz, which is considered one of the most important subjects of the science of fiqh, is a branch of science that explains, in its most general definition, who can inherit the inheritance left behind by a deceased person and how the shares the heirs will receive are calculated. Feraiznâmes, which are accepted as literary genres with religious content in Turkish-Islamic literature, are works in verse and prose written about this science. It is known that the feraizname genre, the first examples of which were seen in the Anatolian Turkish literature in the 15th century, continued until the 20th century. One of the missing links of this literary genre is the work called Feraizü‘l-Manzume by Erzurumlu Muhammed Hazik Efendi, who is considered one of the leading scholars and virtuous poets of 18th century. In this work, about which there is no information in the biographical and bibliographical sources, Hazik has made a verse summary of the important texts of the science of feraiz in order for his students to learn the science of feraiz more easily and memorize its essential parts. This study aims to examine the scientific publication of Feraizü‘l-Manzume, the only known copy of which is registered in the Seyfettin Özege Department Purchased Collection of Atatürk University Central Library, number 35, in terms of language, style, content and form. © 2024, Selim Hilmi Ozkan.
