Abstract

The mobility in the world is increasing day by day depending on the world population. With the increase of the population brings with various problems. One of the most important of these is the transportation problem. The local authorities and the General Directorate of Highways (GDH) conduct continuous road construction and maintenance to solve this problem. It is the responsibility of these institutions to carry out these works in the most economic framework. Therefore, after the providing of the geometric standards, the highway construction stages must fulfill the requirement of economy. In this study, the effects of curves, which are horizontal and vertical elements of highway on cost, were examined. In the case of Erzurum province, a road section was taken into consideration and different horizontal and vertical curve combinations were formed and the relations with cost were reviewed and the appropriate option was determined. © 2019, TUBITAK.
